Digital literacies have never been more important, and if our curriculum is to remain responsive and in-tune with today’s students, it is time to find a place in the curriculum for students to practice and deepen their digital literacies. In this session, Kelly will share how to design and implement a highly-engaging digital composition unit.

How do we move students beyond fake reading? By balancing their reading diet with book club opportunities. In this session, we will look at various approaches to implementing book club reading experiences—all of them effective in getting adolescents to actually read.

Moving Writers from Compliance to Engagement
This workshop will focus on the key components essential to building young writers: volume, modeling, choice, and feedback. Kelly will share numerous strategies proven to motivate young writers, helping them to break free of “fake school writing.”
