We will explore five broad approaches to literacy that you can move outdoors: Literacy to Go, Word Gardens, StoryWalks, Interpretive Signage, and Literacy Trails. Find first steps, varied entry points, logistics, literacy connections, and ways that you can level up once you’re ready.

Participants receive a copy of Valerie’s newest book, Literacy Moves Outdoors: Learning Approaches for Any Environment, published by Heinemann, 2023

Since 1985, Kelly Gallagher has devoted himself to the teaching of reading, writing, listening and speaking—first and foremost, as a high school ELA teacher in Anaheim, California, and also as an author/consultant who works with educators around the world. Today, he is considered one of the leading voices in literacy education.
